Make it in Great Britain exhibitors are announced

Published: 24 April 2012 - Rachael Morling

The companies chosen to feature in the Make it in Great Britain exhibition at the Science Museum, London, this summer have been unveiled.

Iconic industry giants such as Mars, McLaren, Airbus, The Royal Mint and Sunseeker are amongst those selected.

The exhibition, open from 24th  July to 9th  September during the Olympic and Paralympic Games,  is the culmination of an initiative launched last year by the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills which aims to challenge outdated opinions and transform the image of modern manufacturing.

British manufacturing feats such as the manufacturing journey of a Mars bar from ‘bean to bar’, and a lightweight on-demand transport system, which has been piloted at Heathrow Terminal 5, will be showcased.

Speaking of the exhibition, which will be free to enter, business minister Mark Prisk said: "Manufacturing accounts for eight per cent of total UK employment and well over half of export goods, yet current perceptions of the industry are out of date and do not reflect that reality. We have selected a really exciting mix of exhibits, and hope that as many people as possible visit the exhibition and see all of the great examples of British design and manufacturing - it will be spectacular."
