Gigabit cabling components for PROFINET applications

HARTING has introduced a range of Gigabit cabling components designed to extend the scope of industrial PROFINET applications into the Gigabit Ethernet range.

Until now, PROFINET solutions have been based on Fast Ethernet operating at 100 Mbit/s, but the new HARTING products, which include all the familiar Fast Ethernet RJ45 PROFINET cabling components, will allow future PROFINET applications to work in conjunction with a Gigabit Ethernet platform.

PROFINET systems based on these products will offer more variety and performance as well as being faster. They will also give users the option of incorporating standard Gigabit devices into PROFINET solutions, with the cabling incorporating eight wires instead of four.

For RJ45 wiring, HARTING has defined the so-called modularity principle in a company standard which guarantees the mechanical compatibility of the RJ45 connector with the various IP65/67 housings such as the Han® 3A or PushPull V.14 (AIDA interface).

For PROFINET users, this means that all the well-known 4-wire RJ45 PROFINET cabling components are now available in an 8-core version. In combination with HARTING quality, the PROFINET standard guarantees users ease of handling and a reliable network over the entire life of a system.

In addition to the established PROFINET cabling components such as type A, B or C cables and connection technology based on RJ45 or M12, 8-wire cabling has also added a new element: the control cabinet cord. This RJ45 system cord, newly defined by the PNO (PROFIBUS Nutzerorganisation e.V.), is designed for use in control cabinets and IP20/30 environments. It features an 8-core design and is based on an AWG26 cable. This gives it significant flexibility, making it ideal for space-saving installation for short links or for connections that can only be achieved through tight bending radii in the cabinet.

HARTING offers a wide range of factory-tested control cabinet cords. They are fully assembled with the RJ45 connectors over-moulded with DualBoot® technology, and are designed to be extremely robust. HARTING is at the same time expanding its range of 4-wire PROFINET system cords, offering robust design and reliable transmission quality.

New 4-pair PROFINET cables enable higher data rates

HARTING has introduced a new range of 4-pair PROFINET cables in a strategic move to expand the company’s industrial Ethernet portfolio in the fast-growing market of Ethernet systems in industrial environments.

PROFINET offers a number of benefits in automation applications including real-time transmission, robust cabling technology and high reliability as well as simple installation and fast commissioning. HARTING’s new 4-pair cables also allow data rates to be boosted from 100 Mbit/s up to 10 Gbit/s to take into account future developments in network infrastructure.

HARTING has designed the new PROFINET cables in two versions: Type A for fixed installation and type B for flexible installation. While the PROFINET cable for fixed installation requires only inner wire conductors, the necessary mobility in the variant for flexible applications is ensured by the use of tinned stranded wires. In line with the PROFINET guidelines, the outer sheath in the PIMF versions is made of green PVC.

The 4-pair Ethernet cables meet the criteria for EMC separation class D as specified in EN 50174-2, and are designed to withstand large lateral crush loads in the harsh industrial environment. In addition, they are flame-resistant and UV-resistant.

The new PROFINET cables are specially designed for use with HARTING connectors as well as RJ45 connectors from the HARTING RJ Industrial product family in IP 20 applications, or with HARTING Han® 3 A housings for IP 65/IP 67 applications.

The HARTING PROFINET cabling portfolio includes cable types A, B and C, connectors such as RJ45 and M12, and a range of accessories including panel feed-throughs and hybrid interfaces for simultaneously supplying devices with both data and power.

Extending transmission paths in 10 Gbit/s network cabling

The new HARTING Ha-VIS preLink® Extender permits the easy extension of transmission paths in 10 Gbit/s network cabling systems, as well as allowing unused cables to be reactivated and extended until the next required connection.

This new addition to the company’s innovative Ha-VIS preLink® cabling system not only enables the simple extension of transmission paths in data network cabling: it also allows fire zones to be bridged and subscriber ports to be directly connected to the terminal block connector without the need for intermediate patching.

Even unused cables can be reactivated and extended to the next required connection. The installer simply assembles the Ha-VIS preLink® termination module onto both ends of the cable to be extended. The terminated cable ends are then inserted into the Ha-VIS preLink® Extender. A flexible shield clamp transmits the cable shield potential.

The extender itself can be directly mounted on walls, in cable ducts or in a switch cabinet via two 3.2 mm diameter fixing holes. The compact (15.6 × 13.2 × 65.7 mm) design permits installation even in cramped spaces.

The Ha-VIS preLink® Extender meets the transmission performance specifications for Category 6A in accordance with the ISO/IEC 11801 Ed. 2.2 (2011-06) standard. As a result, the structured cabling run can be used for applications up to 10 Gbit/s up to the maximum link length.
