BlackBand provides peace of mind in laboratory environment

Published: 8 June 2012 - Joe Bush

A manufacturer of laboratory equipment has reaped the rewards of GlassGuard’s BlackBand fragment retention coating following a dangerous occurrence in a hazardous area.

When a laboratory flask containing a volatile substance exploded whilst in use, the surrounding area was seriously damaged. Consequently, GlassGuard was approached and asked to offer a solution and applied its BlackBand coating to a number of evaporating flasks.

This ensured that in the event of breakage, the shattered glass would be contained and would not spread throughout sensitive laboratory areas, thus minimising the risk of both chemical contamination and injury to personnel.

CEO David Payne commented, “Evaporating flasks are widely used across a number of industries involved in hazardous areas and with dangerous substances in use, our fragment retention coating ensures that special precautions can be taken to protect the safety of our customers and end users”
