Pinch valves for sand and other abrasive materials

Many older style, conventional types of valves for sand are not an ideal solution. Types such as diverter valves, butterfly valves, ball valves or gate valves become clogged with abrasive, gritty material over time, which in turn causes problems with the flow of the media.
The Pinch Valve on the other hand, does not have any dead spots to cause clogging or media build-up because it does not have any heavy metal actuators such as a disc, ball or gate to shutoff the sand. Pinch Valves have an elastomer rubber sleeve inside the housing, which pinches tightly closed to shut off the flow of sand. The rubber sleeves are also self cleaning.
To slow down the wearing process of the valve for sand even further, Pinch Valves are available with stainless steel contact parts on the flange bushings. The valve body and flanges themselves are made of aluminium so that the valve is lightweight and easier to install, especially if it is positioned up high on site. The stainless steel bushings on the flanges prevent wear of the aluminium. The only parts that the sand comes into contact with on a Pinch Valve is the flange bushings, and the flexible rubber hose inside the body.
When considering which type of valve for sand to use, it would make sense to think about the future costs of spares and replacement parts. With the Pinch Valve, the only wearable part is the rubber sleeve. These come in a wide range of rubber materials, and usually Natural Rubber or EPDM are recommended for sand applications.
