FDB Rocfast gets locks right, delivers them fast

12 July 2018

A significant problem in assembly of specialist enclosures and cabinets can be the task of selecting components to fit the housing, then assembling a variety of components when they arrive in separate plastic bags. FDB Rocfast solve this problem with experienced hand holding in the selection of lock cylinder, earthing spec, tab/cam depth and offset, key type, vandal resistance, corrosion resistance and so on to ensure that the optimum lock component match is selected. This proven Rocfast program saves time, money and mistakes by guiding customers through the custom process of specification, component matching, ordering, assembly, packaging and logistics.

Then the Rocfast team assemble the components as required: fully assembled, partial – e.g. with/without cylinder or cam. These are packed as needed, e.g. in bulk or single packs and shipped country-wide or worldwide to a manufacturing site or customer installation to ensure arrival as expected and when needed.

To aid in this Rocfast have produced a guide which walks customers through the logical process of determining which housing, insert, cam, cut-out, and/or cam adapter may be required for standard or extended body locks in common finishes and how to select the correct part number to ensure the desired part is ordered. Accessories such as handle inserts, dust caps and finger pulls, serrated lock washers and earth nuts are highlighted, as are slide shoes for cams which help provide a positive compression while reducing the friction and paint damage caused by constant operation.

The whole process can be simply talked through with one of the Rocfast team by phone or online.

The Rocfast program focuses primarily on lock assembly including all major industry brands – it includes all ¼ turn favourites with appropriate keys, with IP rated sealing if required, with cams of all types, traditional L or T handles, swinghandles and compression locks as applicable. This specialist service program can efficiently deal with modern modular component systems or traditional single kit formats and with one-off or scheduled program deliveries as well as separate packaging of locks/backnuts/keys etc to suit logistical requirements. Where required complete fitting kits can be supplied including lock/s, hinges, gasket, and with lock cylinders+keys forwarded to a separate destination if desired.

Typically this could involve a careful investigation of the specification and supply parameters so that for example a suitable assembly of ¼ turn camlock, budget lock or stainless steel lock might be identified – coupled with perhaps a piano hinge or internal weld-on hinges – packed together with a precut length of clip-on sealing profile – with packs to be delivered in batch quantities.

FDB were delighted recently to find that their Rocfast program, combined with the novel D-SNAP technology, enabled rapid on-site enclosure lock changes with substantial saving in time and money for one enterprising customer.

The SNAPLINE series of zinc die or polyamide bodied locks with adjustable L/R 90° operation clips securely into a standard rectangular cut out with many different varieties available so that it was possible to accommodate varying pre and post commissioning security requirements.

The Rocfast process was found to save multiple site visits and time consuming unscrewing, followed by re-screwing of traditional enclosure lock bodies.

The Rocfast program covers the extra sealing requirements of high degrees of dust and water protection. Most common lock applications require the lower levels of IP54, however in external use IP65 may be needed and for harsh external or heavy hose down areas, then IP66 or IP67 is appropriate.

These higher levels of sealing are generally achieved by use of single or double O rings. The Rocfast program ensures correct specification, correct assembly and correct logistics, which exemplifies the versatility and level of service provided. Locks are generally available from ex-stock components so ensuring a rapid delivery process.
