55% of the utilities industry state customer engagement as crucial to its future success

Today, ONZO, a global provider of data analytics solutions for the utility sector, reveals the top line views of delegates live from European Utility Week (EUW), the annual event for the European energy market. The research shows that 55% of respondents believe that customer engagement is crucial for future success of the industry.

Looking ahead to the next 12 months, the top three biggest opportunities for the utility sector are consumer engagement (33%), growth in smart metering/energy services (29%) and thirdly, distributed energy resources (25%).

Further to this, 60% plan to take action in 2016 by implementing customer engagement programmes as 72% view data analytics as playing a very important part in improving customer engagement.

The results of this research are supported by the demand ONZO is seeing from the utility sector for its services. Recent signings include a five-year partnership with Norwegian utility, Fjordkraft and a grant of over £700k from Innovate UK to support the launch of a new utility in Scotland.

Spencer Rigler, CEO of ONZO, said: “Day one of European Utility Week did not disappoint and we have seen a real buzz around the topic of customer engagement. These results show that the utilities industry recognises the opportunity that insight into customers energy use provides. Particularly focusing on customer understanding, ability to minimise churn and increase customer retention. Critically, there is now a clear industry understanding that in order to improve the relationship between utilities and their customers in the future data analytics will be essential.”

ONZO compiles and analyses household energy data to empower customers with personalised visualisation and control of their energy usage in addition to comprehensive consumer insights for the utility.

Utilities have a wealth of data at their disposal and can utilise ONZO to build a stronger relationship with the customer through better targeted CRM, promoting products that are truly beneficial to the individual and helping them save money on energy bills.
