Published: 15 May 2019 - Carly Wills

Following analysis of the networks’ fault history and performance, SP Energy Networks, the distribution network operator in central and southern Scotland, is installing new 33kV cables to modernise the existing infrastructure to provide a more reliable power supply.

The year-long project will allow for vital upgrades to the network which supplies around 31,000 homes and businesses in the Three Towns, Kilwinning and Irvine areas.

Work in High Road, Stevenson is under way and will continue in various locations throughout 2019, including Sannox Drive, Dalry Rd and Kenilworth Drive in Saltcoats.

Angus Campbell, Ayrshire & Clyde south district general manager at SP Energy Networks said:“We are committed to future-proofing the network for our customers in North Ayrshire. We are working hard to ensure there are minimal disruptions to customers during the completion of projects and always aim to keep local residents informed as work progresses.”

SP Energy Networks owns and manages overhead and underground powerlines in central and southern Scotland as well as Merseyside, Cheshire, North Wales and North Shropshire.
