Smart grid contracts down eight per cent in Q3 2019

Smart grid contracts in Q3 2019 saw 24 contracts announced, marking a drop of eight per cent over the last four-quarter average of 26, according to GlobalData’s power industry contracts database.

The proportion of contracts by category tracked by GlobalData in the quarter was as follows:

  1. Supply and erection: 22 contracts and a 91.7 per cent share
  2. Project implementation: one contract and a 4.2 per cent share
  3. Repair, maintenance, upgrade and others: one contract and a 4.2 per cent share.

Comparing contracts activity in smart grid segment in different regions of the globe, Europe held the top position with nine contracts and a share of 37.5 per cent during Q3 2019, followed by North America with eight contracts and a 33.3 per cent share and Asia-Pacific with six contracts and a 25 per cent share.

Among the technologies, solar accounted for five contracts with a 62.5 per cent share, followed by wind with two contracts and a 25 per cent share and thermal with one contract and a 12.5 per cent share.

The top issuer of smart grid contracts for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved was the University of Massachusetts (United States) with 1MW from one contract.

The top winner of contracts for the quarter in terms of power capacity involved was Enel X North America (United States) with 1MW from one contract.
