Utilitywise offers North East Chamber of Commerce members free utility management services

Published: 7 July 2015 - Marianne Evans

The North East Chamber of Commerce (NECC) has signed a new partnership with energy experts Utilitywise to help local businesses to become more energy efficient. The new deal will see all 4000 NECC members offered a range of free services from Utilitywise including an energy health check, bill checking, troubleshooting estimated bills, access to an energy helpline and receiving regular newsletter updates with savings hints and tips.

Research shows more than half of NECC businesses have not checked if they are on the right energy tariff and one in five still receive an estimated bill on a regular basis. The issue of complicated utility bills is not confined to North East businesses alone, on a national level Utilitywise found that 60% of businesses were unable to identify that E or A bill readings mean estimated or actual, whilst a quarter (25%) did not understand the term unit rate.

The partnership will aim to make businesses in the region more energy efficient by helping them to identify when, where and how much energy is being used across their business. By creating bespoke Utility Management Plans for all members, the experienced and home-grown team at Utilitywise will work with North East based companies to help them manage their energy consumption more effectively. The Utility Management Plans will also support businesses to manage their procurement, reduce utility consumption overall and lower their carbon footprint.

Speaking on the new partnership Nigel Hudson, marketing director at Utilitywise, said: “Utilitywise is delighted to have been selected by the North East Chamber of Commerce as their Utility Services Partner. Having been a Member of the Chamber for a number of years, we have first-hand experience of the great work they do to support their Members and the North East economy as a whole.

“Our ethos is clearly aligned to that of NECC. We aim to help businesses become more efficient and therefore more competitive. Utilitywise is already working with 15 other Chambers of Commerce across the UK and Ireland, supporting over 25,000 Chamber members."

James Ramsbotham, chief executive, NECC said: “We’re very happy to be working with Utilitywise. It’s great that a North East company is not only helping our members reduce their energy costs but is also helping them get better value for money from their energy suppliers. We encourage our members to try the service. Any savings that can be made to a company’s expenditure can be spent successfully elsewhere and the knock-on effect can only be a good thing.”

Utilitywise works with companies across all sectors, from small and medium sized companies to large, multi-site corporations. Established in 2006, the North East-based company has seen rapid growth and development, listing on the Stock Market in June 2012.
