HCL Safety publishes guide to BS 7883

Published: 17 June 2020 - Victoria White

HCL Safety – specialist in safety at height system design, installation, inspection, maintenance, fall protection training and product servicing – has launched a guide to the latest fall protection standards.

Injury or death resulting from falls is, sadly, still impacting too many UK workers. According to Health and Safety Executive (HSE) figures for fatal injuries in Great Britain for 2018-19, 40 workers suffered fatal injuries as a result of falling from height – that’s 27% of all UK fatalities in the workplace.

This is why it is so important to ensure your fall protection equipment and processes meet the latest requirements and follow all relevant best practice guidance. The latest revision of BS 7883 is a comprehensive best practice framework for those designing, installing, maintaining, inspecting, and certifying anchor devices and systems used in personal fall protection regimes.

To help those specifying fall protection equipment, HCL Safety has published a guide to BS 7883, unpicking recommendations made in the recent update, and looking specifically at:

  • The latest anchor technologies
  • The importance of technical records
  • New system design guidance
  • Inspection best practice

Stuart Pierpoint, UK Sales Manager for HCL, comments: “As an organisation, HCL Safety strives to operate in accordance with all standards and best practice framework. BS 7883 is no different. We welcome the clarity and further safety improvements that this framework will drive. We, as an industry, should do our utmost to ensure that this code of practice is enforced and followed across the board. Lives may depend on it.”
