DHL breaks ground at specialist warehouse in Snelshall

Published: 10 September 2019 - Rachel Tucker

DHL Supply Chain has broken ground on its new 20,000 sq. m warehouse at Snelshall, Milton Keynes. Representatives of DHL Supply Chain’s UKI board looked on as CEO José Nava formally commenced work on the new multi-user facility, which once complete will support a number of specialist contracts including the end-to-end supply chain management of uniforms for a number of UK police forces.

As part of DHL’s commitment to reduce all logistics-related emissions to net-zero by 2050,

the new warehouse will feature several energy-saving innovations that far exceed current regulations for a building of this type. High levels of natural daylight will be provided to reduce the need for artificial lighting while the LED lighting system will be zoned and controlled via absence sensors.

Solar panels will be fitted to the roof and a heat transfer system will provide warm water to amenity areas. Rainwater will be harvested and used in toilets and external watering points, reducing mains-water usage and stress on the storm-water management system. Electric charging points will also be installed in staff car parks.

Speaking at the ceremony, José Nava said: “We’re delighted to have begun work on our new warehouse which will provide our customers with state-of-the-art facilities for their end-to-end supply chain needs. We’re committed to providing market-leading solutions for our customers while minimising our impact on the environment. The Snelshall site will be industry-leading in many respects.”

The DHL site at Snelshall is due to be completed by Autumn 2020.
